94 4.0l ohv severe oil leak

ok here is what has been done

complete engine rebuild so all gaskets are all new

got it back in truck and running was checking for leaks etc. and found a severe oil leak located at the rear of the oil pan on the right side..
pulled trans because i suspected faulty rear main seal seal was dry but there was some oil between oil pan and block so engine was raised and oil pan was pulled and oil pan gasket was replaced.
put truck all back together just to find that it is still leaking in the same place.. could this just be a cracked oil pan? or just the stupid after market design of the oil pan gasket which varies from the OE style in groove gasket?
also does anyone know where to find the OE style Gasket?

It's very possible the pan is just warped. Also did you use silicone in the corner joints?

yes and on second attempt a thin coating of silcone all the way around on both sides of gasket... just for good measure LOL!!!!!
so you suggest a new pan ?

and everything was very clean and bare metal

Well I would put the pan on a flat surface and inspect the sealing flange. If its obviously warped then yes replace it. Did you also make sure the leak isnt originating from somewhere higher up like the pressure switch, even the back of a valve cover can leak down and look like it's coming from lower on the engine.

Yes I did it is definitely coming from just below the rear main seal

Without looking at it my personal opinion would be its leaking from the corner joint then. It's really easy to squish those joints or not seal them properly. The one peice gaskets solve that issue but as you've found... not easy to find sometimes.

I would check the pan for warpage, if its good, install the gaskets with high tack on the pan. Let it dry. Then add the RTV on the joints, install the pan hand tighten the bolts only! Wait an hour, then torque them down in a cross pattern keeping a close eye that a corner doesn't squeeze out.

Gasket won't squish above is the style of the gasket but one on the truck is Fel-pro

The OEM GASKET IS IN Chanel gasket so styles are different

So they are both one peice? Not 4? I'm not a 4.0 expert. But have changed many oil pan gaskets lol.

If the one you have is still one peice then I'd be inclined to blame the pan.

It is leaking because you have the wrong gasket.

You need a Fel-Pro OS30634R

is 1 piece but it seals just right on the very thin inner edge right next to the original channel that the OEM GASKET sat in.

Pan didn't leak prior to the rebuild and was not dropped or anything so I think it is cracked up towards the top on that side.
