96 4.0 Explorer XLT 4x4 Getting it back on the road

On a positive note, I live on some rough country roads, travel some rough highways, and the cheap-ass shocks are working great

Damm this thing has me stumped! All I did was swapped the PCV, coil, and plug wires.
Suddenly there's a horrific miss??

I've swapped the wires back and forth twice (also the coil), been over every inch of it with a fine tooth comb a dozen times, sprayed carb cleaner all around while it was running, absolutely no clue

I sprayed carb cleaner on it and checked the line, it's got a vacuum on it, not a strong one really but it seems to be working. Reckon I should swap that with the 93 and see?

Nope! That's all different. Reckon it needs a valve?

do you have a vac gauge? if you dont...get one. see what the engine is doing. could just be a stuck egr valve or sensor somewhere.

I got this one here, hope it's right, says it also does fuel pressure(altho I thought fuel pressure was higher than 10lbs

That will work fine.
Carberator engine fuel pumps rarely went more than 7psi. 3 to 7 was a normal range.

I noticed that in the instructions Always, they're directed only towards carberation

Leave to parts places to make things all complicated.
First I went in at AutoZone and they didn't have a vacuum tester had to order it, $20. I saw the photo, looked like a round tire pressure gauge with an extension hose on it. Won't be in till Tuesday but it's already paid for(for now)

Stopped later at Oreilly's and they found one on the shelf, $28 but looked like a much better tester, and it also does fuel pressure.

After getting home and studying in to it I found the fuel gauge only goes to 10lbs, and only discusses carburated applications.

Isn't EFI more in the 40+ lbs range?

Yes, Efi is in the 20 to 100psi range. That needs a totally different tester. I pick one up at Princess auto that goes to 300? IIRC. With adapters so it does diesel too? My memory isn't good and I haven't looked at it a couple years.

Also need to add that whatever has been changed that thing seems to be devouring a tank of gas :/

testing the vacuum is a great tool. with a perceived miss it can help

efi is usually hi psi and requires a different testor.

You have the egr and the fuel pressure regulator vacuum lines switch.

Thanks Bobby, I took the O'really's back and will wait on the simpler AZ one, should be here Tues. I didn't see me needing the carburetor version
