98 expedition water pump

98 4.6 expedition
So on the way to work the other night the water pump decided to take a crap. Had to have it towed home yesterday. AAA paid off! Lol
I have it apart now and the hole is not cleaning up very well. Should I use a little rtv on this or just hope for the best with the o ring on the new pump?

A clean hole is a good hole. But when in doubt blue rtv never hurts. Just use it properly. Apply, it, install the pump and bolt it on finger tight, wait an hour, then torque to spec.

That's kinda what I was thinking. It's rough and rusty where the o ring sits in the hole. So rtv it is.

Ok got it all nice and shiny with the wire wheel. Was somewhat pitted so used a little rtv and got it all back together. And I forgot to stop on the way home and get coolant. So tomorrow.
