Hello. My son just got a 98 Ranger. Heater isn't working. Fan blows fine, but no hot air when temp adjuster set to hot. I moved the lever on the heater bypass valve by hand, and still no hot air. Did not feel any vacuum in the line going to the valve. I suspect valve is bad or core is clogged, but wanted to ask opinions before tearing anything apart. It is a 2.5L engine.

In case it is related - I just replaced the cylinder head. Although I did not remove the AC compressor, it is not engaging now. AC worked great before we swapped cylinder head. Not sure if heater worked before or not. Air blows from correct vents based on knob settings.

And finally, I have a 4-way heater bypass. Is it OK to use the 2-way instead? I assume this makes a dead-end (or 2 dead ends) when valve is closed. Any issues with doing this? I took the throttle heater lines off during head replacement and do not plan to use them. Does heat travel to the core via the "dead end" leading back to block?
