Does anyone have a favorite brand or vendor to purchase a set of tamper proof wheel nuts. These are for my 07 FX4 with the large axles & the Alcoa wheels. It's about time to secure these dudes to where they belong.

Mainly because I was (just the other day) at Best Buy the & the door man asks me if I know who owns that yellow thing with the cool looking wheels....I asked him, WHY?? He replies, "I'm looking for some new wheels for my Toyota 4wd p/u & I like those! I reply to him, they be not 4 sale, sorry. Methold Wheels from Summit, or D/T. That would be a good thread, what are ur favorite wheels including the back story? Anyway, hope everyone is having a great summer.- Doug

My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
I just buy Gorilla brand when I buy new nuts.

Internal engaging locking lug nuts are more tamper resistant than external engaging one. Less things for tools to grip on. Project Farm on youtube did a video on a few different brands and styles not that long ago. That might be worth a watch before you buy.

Thanks everyone. Still looking on P/F's tube channel that outlines the lug nuts, but what a resource, thanks a ton. Talk about "maker" porn. I can just sit back and get educated on all the stuff that matters to me. This Project Farm channel I will send around to my other "farmers" Ha! - Doug

What I've learned about locking lugs follows.

USE ANTI-SEIZE ON THE THREADS AND DON"T USE EXCESSIVE FORCE TIGHTENING THEM.
The lube action of the anti-seize means you don't need the same torque when tightening.
The anti-seized threads will remove more easily.
Ignore the people who say your wheels will fly off if anti-seize is used.
I've used anti-seize on every lug nut / bolt I've ever serviced.

AND, if you have your vehicle serviced and you provide your internal 'funny shaped' socket to some tech, don't be surprised if you get the socket returned chipped up due to sloppy handling. Have a handle on replacing the socket in the future.

It's crazy watching these demonstrations of simple nature, vise grips, drill & a drywall screw, hammering deep sockets onto any "safe" lugnut marketed. The Advanced Tech. brand looks the best, silly cone looking thing.

Thanks Kira. Good idea to have a second socket, real good idea.

I did learn that the thread is 1/2" x 20.

I remember this guy somewhere was using some teflon product on his lug nuts, and seats, said the because of the increased percentage of the thread engagement, the torque specs were now off. He said that the guys at the tire shop were over torquing his lug nuts, but they also were not using any torque wrenches, just their impact guns. Over torqued with an impact gun you say?? But anyway, I use a teflon crayon on everything. Plumbers use the same thing, teflon pipe dope, the crayon type. My favorite formula is my own. Moly with teflon (Dupont MP-1000) and the base is mobil one red synthetic grease. I'd love to cast my own crayons. But burning teflon makes phosgene gas. I hate when that happens.

Anti-seize makes many different formulas. Say goodbye to any of your favorite tee shirts. Only for use with the shop jumpsuit....

I use anti-seize. A little goes a very long way.

Most times I’m dealing with tires, I’m expecting to get dirty anyway. So I wear cloths I don’t care about. And I wear nitrile gloves.

I always liked mcguard lug nuts, ran ‘em year round with no rusting or pitting. I haven’t bought any in years so they may possibly no longer be in business.
