Any benefit of earlier 2.8 heads?

Hi, I was just wondering if there would be any benefits if you ran heads from an earlier 2.8 from a 1977 Mustang II.

I have heard of the only heads to not have EGR/smog were 1974 pinto? One year only. All the other years tend to be about the same setups, some of the newer ranger or truck 83-86 didn't crack as much as the 70's passenger car heads.
