Anyone ever did this on a AL4D trans?

Has anyone ever changed the metal cooler lines to rubber hoses? If you have any issues? I have attached a picture

There is alot of flow in the trans cooler lines but not alot of pressure, its open ended circulation

The ATF that was used to hold clutches and brakes in place is sent out on one line, thru the cooler, then back to the pan(open ended, vented pan) on the other line, to be sucked up by the filter/pump again.

Metal lines are used because they are cheaper and will last longer than rubber lines, rubber WILL deteriorate, metal "may" deteriorate(rust)
Also metal is better for most "debris" strikes under the vehicle, on or off road, run rubber hose inside the frame rail as much as practical

No reason you can't use rubber lines, it needs to be rated for at least 400deg temp, normal running temp is 180-210deg

Thanks! Ron!! I may switch to rubber I just hate the metal lines being in the way whereas I cant move the rubber lines and secure them in right front rail.

Metal lines also act as a cooler, although it's debatable how much cooling actually happens.

F series trucks in the 80's and possibly earlier had a big loop of steel tubing that ran around the engine crossmember and acted as a power steering cooler... there's your useless trivia for today.

That "cooler" was used much later than that. The 04+ trucks had basically the same thing. If you had the tow package you got one with an 8in finned section.

I figured it probably was. I haven't worked on a whole lot of F series trucks newer than about 1986 or so... my knowledge is limited there.

Some of the trucks in the 70's had little finned coolers on the power steering near the engine crossmember or near the power steering pump too.
