Removed my intake duct the other day, noticed a bit of oil in my 83 diesel ranger. Tried that old trick with the oil cap to test blow by.. the cap danced around quit a bit, is that Normal ? I was told it should dance around a bit but not pop straight off ( keeping in mind it's a 4 cylinder diesel with a bit of vibration.. and did the test while the engine was cold )

I would clean that oil out of the intake duct.
80s era VW diesels would also accumulate oil in the intake. when it was a big enough puddle it would get sucked in at a random time, usually on the freeway.
to the engine it was a big shot of extra fuel, and would run like a scalded dog :icon_surprised: for about 3-5 seconds with no way to shut it down.

I don't know if the Rangers did that.
Isn't there a crankcase vent that goes to the intake?

I'd google, search info on an catch can. High performance engines can suck a lot of oil into the intake through the pcv and the oil catch can is a way to keep it out of the intake.

They vary from build you own to pretty expensive custom made assemblies. Saw one the other day on a built 454 that probably cost more that my engine.
