You could use "chrome" spray paint on the filler, but that's about it. Since chrome-plating metal involves sticking particles to the actual metal, it won't stick to body filler.

And I think this belongs in the Exterior forum...

Im not too sure about that one. I would imagine so if they're pretty deep stratches, but if you sanded it, it may smooth over. But like I said, Im not positive.

If you're going to have it chromed, you'll have to make the surface finish look like the finished product with the exception of the shine. After you hit it with the regular grinder, they do make sanding discs that are meant to finish metal down. I use the big grinder to take the bulk of the material off. Then I use a 24 grit sanding disc to take welds down flush, then hit it with a 50 grit disc to smooth it all out. It leaves the surface pretty shiny and ready for paint. The only filler you can use on a chromed peice is metal.

Can lead solder be used as a filler and then be chromed?

I don't see why not, but I don't know for sure.

Probably your best bet for the specific information you are looking for would be to call the place you are planning on having your parts chromed at. Chances are, they will know exactly what you can and can't get away with and what kind of condition the parts needs to be in when you ship it to them.

That is true. Unless it has sentimental value, it one-of-a-kind, or isn't available as any kind of reproduction, it's probably not worth getting it chromed. My grandpa had the front and rear bumpers for his 37 Chrysler Royale re-chromed. They were not large bumpers and I think it came out to over $300 each.

BUT i would go with flux core and not acid
because it could affect color
