I'm thinking the bronze would be better for highway mostly and in stop and go traffic the ball bearing. but whatadoiknow. :)

Are you sure it is a ball bearing? I know mine is a roller (needle?) pilot bearing.

My Mazda Protege5 has a ball bearing pilot. Bigger stuff usually has a needle bearing though.

In the Chevy K2500 I drove in high school, I also had a choice. The transmission had a needle bearing to begin with. Being low on money, I skimped and bought the bronze bushing, which was 20 dollars cheaper than the bearing.

The truck ran and drove fine. It didn't like to shift at high RPM or downshift at too high of speed. This was caused by the higher drag of the bushing compared to the bearing.

Moral of the story, bearing all the way.

It was about the choice, not so much if they are ball roller or needle bearings. I don't have one in hand so I don't know till I purchase one, which IMO should come with a flywheel

It's a cheap part. Seriously like 10 bucks

Actually they come with the clutch kit (not all flywheels go to a stick shift)

Well, yeah, talking to myself again, but since I've already resurected this thread I'm looking for info about grease on a pilot bearing.
I know they're pre-greased but mine has lost a considerable amount in getting a stick ready to drive the old one out, every time I sand it a bit and try it again it soaks up a little more, and I'm thinking it needs a new coat once it's installed, and I'm wondering what kind?

I have two on hand, one is the thick old dinasour type , the other is the newer, thinner, high temp stuff. My guess is the newer one but was just looking for that information :)

Me myself I use the red hi-tac grease for just about everything.
