I don't have a Haynes manual or anything right now, and was wondering if my 2004 Edge would have a cabin air filter?

The owner's manual says "...if so equiped".

If there is one, where would it be located?

Thanks

I have never heard of a Ranger with a cabin air filter. In vehicles that do have them, they are usually located under the cowl behind the hood. Since that is not easily accessible on the Ranger, it probably will not have a cabin air filter until they change the design.

try looking behind the glove box too. The majority of in-cabin air filters I've seen have been behind the glove box. The easiest way to get there is to depress the sides of the glove box and it'll fall all the way down. You'll see an air filter like box, typically on top of the blower. Sometimes you'll have to flip a clip or unscrew some bolts to get to the filter. It's a 10 15 min. job.

I haven't seen a cabin air filter in a ranger yet at work, pretty much only in the Taurus, Freestar, and some Escapes.

Most likely it is due to how the data in the auto-parts database was created. I have seen a lot of bad information from those systems.

Alternately, if not properly filtered, information could have been imported from the UK or AU market which has usually always had different vehicle designs than the US market.

Looking at Rock Auto and other online retailers the information on filter is inconclusive. Physically looking at Rock Auto from within US servers I was unable to find an in-cabin filter specifically.

* These are my thoughts and conclusions based on several years working for an online retailer and personal parts search for older vehicles*

Probably the same reason that I can find listing for ball joints for 89 Explorers and 97 Bronco IIs.

Parts catalogs aren't written by people who know cars.

My vague memory is that there was enough similarity to an Explorer that a user at another forum posted the process for adding one. Didn't seem worth it IMO. Definitely not a factory part.

Edit - I was wrong. The EV rangers did in fact include one, so that's where all the confusion begins.

In this thread, a user orders and installs one near the end of page 3:
