Caliper bracket

I ordered new Power Stop calipers and got the right part according to their website (S4606A). The shop told me the caliper is fine but the mounting bracket is wrong. I called Power Stop (their customer service sucks) but they told me I could get the S4606 that has a smaller bracket but same caliper. I think the guy at the shop said the bracket was different than the one that was stock. Would a smaller bracket solve the problem?

Should I break in the new brake pads now or wait until I get the caliper bracket replaced?

Also Amazon said the rotors I bought fit (they are the ones that have the bearings go in them) but the shop said they were too small and I needed an inch or so bigger. Confused at why the two different model numbers are almost a $100 difference if the bracket is only bigger on the more expensive one (the one I bought).

Truck is 2001 RWD 2.5L manual trans, 4 wheel ABS front coil spring suspension.

Buying parts from Amazon and trusting their fitment guide is NEVER a good idea. You have to do your own research first, get and confirm part numbers, then look for the best prices, whether that's on Amazon or not.

As for the caliper brackets and what you need. I can't answer that. Sorry.

If you are having it done at a shop just have them get you the correct parts.

They got me the correct rotors but used the caliper from the new one but the old bracket. I'm trying to get the correct bracket so I can have them put it on also.

Should I wait to break in the pads until I have the correct caliper bracket?

Why do you need new brackets? They don't really go bad unless the slide area gets really corroded.

I just figured to replace everything since they're 18 years old. I notice I have much more forceful stopping now with the new calipers.

I would just leave the brackets alone and do them next time

You can get new rubber boots for the slide pins and grease them well before installing it all.

01+ 2wd trucks had two different front disc sizes (10" and 11" if memory serves). I'm guessing that the brackets you ordered are for the smaller discs and you have the larger discs so the brackets are probably too short to bolt to the spindle when everything is in place.

For what it's worth, I bought a set of new '02 Mustang rear calipers from Amazon when I converted my '02 Ranger to Mustang rear disc brakes. Those calipers were worthless. One would not open wide enough no matter what to fit over the rotor when loaded with new pads. I think these were Chinese knock-offs.

I ended up buying rebuilt calipers from O'R**ys with the Ford logo in the casting. Don't believe I'll ever buy rebuilt calipers without the Ford logo.

How were you pushing the pistons in?

The '02 Mustang caliper pistons screw in and out. No C-clamp with them.
