I've been trying to decide if I'm going to camp during the anniversary, or stay at a hotel. I've also been looking for a place to meet up on Friday evening.

The offroad park is in Garrettsville west of Warren. The Warren area isn't a good area, and doesn't have much to offer.

Streetsboro is about the same distance to the west, and offers some better hotel options with restaurants close by.

Southington Offroad has a camping area, and there is a KOA campground just outside of Streetsboro for those that want to camp.

I'm not sure if I'll do a hotel on Friday and camp on Saturday, or just do the hotel both nights.

I'm considering the 'Chuggers Bar & Grill' or 'The Happy Moose Bar & Grill' as a place to meet up on Friday. Both have large parking lots and adjoining parking lots.

Has anyone thought about where they were going to stay?

My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
I was planning on camping at the off-road park. I hadn’t looked for other campgrounds. The KOA sounds good though. I plan on getting in the area early on Friday but Southingtons website says you can’t get in until 5:00? And it’s first come first serve on campsites. If a fair number of us will camp at the KOA, I would rather go there since I could make a reservation and get in and set up early. I’d like to be hanging out where a decent number of other TRS members will be.

I’ll check out those restaurants if they have web pages. The Happy Moose has a nice ring to it.

I’m making a decent road trip out of this. Going to visit my cousin in Cincinnati on Thursday. Might also visit Rock and Roll Hall of a fame after leaving on Sunday.

I'll almost certainly be camping - but my situation is a bit tentative on the status of the engine right now.

Hotelling it Wednesday night and Thursday night on the way out, I was figuring on camping Friday and Saturday nights at SOP. Unless it is like 150* or downpouring... then we might explore other options since I only have a tent.

Stupid random thought that just hit me, will we be able to get into SOP Friday night? With the social thing you got me thinking a hotel might not be a bad idea Friday night anyway.

Double check pricing and where they would place you. Last time I used a KOA, I might as well got a hotel room and they placed me right in with the RVs. Thankfully, there was a patch of grass big enough to put up a tent.

I plan on de-trailering the Ranger, pitch my tent on the trailer and put up an awning over the rest of my trailer. Shade and a clean floor surface. All good.

I'm trying to get some information on how big Southington Offroad's (SOR) campground is. All I know about it is that it's first come, first serve.

I found a few photos on their facebook page.

And for anyone thinking SOR won't be challenging enough:

Here's a closer look:

29537

I tagged (2) areas that I think offer potential overflow parking. The businesses that have that big parking area on the left closes at 6:30 pm.

A nice thing about this area is that it's easy to get to, and is someplace for other Ranger owners to come and meet up that aren't offroaders.

Hotels:

The hotels along this area are:

Comfort Inn & Suites
Econo Lodge
Fairfield Inn & Suites
Hampton Inn & Suites
Holiday Inn Express & Suites
Motel 6
Quality Inn
Towneplace Suites by Marriott
Wingate

I heard back from Southington Offroad (SOR):

Hey Jim,

The campground area can fill up on Friday but we have nearly unlimited primitive camping. Any idea how many actually need a site with electric? Those tent camping won’t have an issue finding a spot to set up camp.
I'm checking to see how many electric sites they have.

UPDATE:

I think we have about 13 electric sites. Camping is per person so we don’t limit how many people can be on a site.
I was thinking that maybe we could get pizzas on Friday and eat them at the pavilion at SOR, but that may leave out anyone not staying at SOR. Maybe we can do that on Saturday.

This is crazy, but I found a weather forecast for September:

https://www.accuweather.com/en/us/warren-oh/44483/september-weather/330117

It predicts that Friday will be partly cloudy with a high of 78 and a low of 55. Saturday will have an occasional morning shower, with a high of 76 and a low of 54.

Weather sounds good to me. But I don't trust any weatherman predicting more than 15 minutes into the future. The pictures look amazing. I can't wait to get there.

So Jim, have you decided to camp at the park?

We got 2" of rain yesterday on a 30% chance of scattered showers...

EDIT: Not a bad thing, we haven't had rain since early June. That was the second rain my soybeans have had since I planted them.

I'm torn because I like the idea of not having to deal with loading and unloading the trailer and camping at the park, but I also enjoy having a hot shower after wheeling all day

I think the park has a bath house. Thought I saw that listed somewhere
