Yeah… I actually have the original user manual that came with it in the original hard case. The 508 has a fuel on off and a separate flame adjustment.

The flame adjustment lever on the generator is where I was having issues. It has leaked there and I kinda remember fire at the flame adjustment lever.

Some older hardware stores might have some old parts too, or be able to order them

I just scored a super nice 502 single burner stove today for $20. Looks like it's been maybe used once. Will post a pic when I can... I'll have to get an updated pic of my lantern collection too. Thrift stores have been pretty slim pickins the last couple months, I bet they're saving all their camping gear for early next season.

I have never seen anything in a thrift store. Nice find!

Well, here it is! Works great, fired right up! I've gotten a couple of my stoves and a lantern or two from the thrift store. Yard sales, estate sales and pawn shops have yielded better stuff though.

Lanterns are all up and running at this point except for the oil lamp and the lantern on the far left - it flares up, something is not quite right and I haven't been motivated enough to tear it down yet.

No paperwork. The box was a real nice extra! It's in fantastic condition for being 38 years old - almost could have passed for new if not for a little bit of soot on the burner.

I know you will probably keep it and use it... but that box probably triples the value of that unit to a collector.

Dang straight I'm gonna use it, in fact I fired it up in the house tonight and made some corn quesadillas in my little 6-1/2" skillet. Just had to make sure it works, lol. My girlfriend's dad was over and he asked if my kitchen stove was broken, with a smile on his face, he knows to expect things like this.

It's nice enough that I'm probably not going to take it out camping and beat it up. I have a much newer 533 single burner stove for that purpose.

We need to get a cast iron thread going next..............

Ever had to pull the valve out of a fount? If so what did you use for thread sealant?

I see red locktite (not really a sealant imo) and #2 permatex mentioned online...

I got a new valve for my 400B. Dumped the fuel out of that, dads lantern and the acetone out of my 220J today and stripped down the 400B. Just need to seal the threads and reassemble.

Yep... I used a couple wraps of Teflon tape. Seems to have worked well. I don't know if I'd use red lock-tight... It would work but make disassembly in the future very difficult.

My 508 is a really clean little stove. It came with a hard case and I didn't put many hard miles on it.

It's gonna get some bench time today and I'll see what I'm dealing with. I just have this gut feeling it will cost way more to repair then just finding another single burner. Hopefully I can repair the generator because finding a replacement looks to be close to impossible... and being I actually bought it new... I just want it functioning again.

If you run out and buy another one you are still gonna wanna fix yours...

I did a lot of thinking before I spent $20 on my $2 stove.

Well I pulled it apart and now I seem to remember why I stopped last time I was in there fooling with it.

This 508 has a weird generator... there is a flame adjustment lever that is actually part of it. On the lever shaft there is a metering rod that pulls in and out of a jet. I can't pull the lever off to get at the packing or O-rings. The metering rod is connected at 90 degrees to the lever shaft.

Before I destroy it... I signed up over at Coleman Collector Forum to see if there is any way to get it apart... but my account is pending approval... so I wait.
