First post here, so if this needs to be moved feel free to put it in the correct location.

This weekend my 1999 Ranger 3.0L XLT threw a P1405 engine code. A quick look at the DPFE sensor and I discovered that the hoses were rotted through. I purchased hoses and proceeded to pull the old ones off. Funny thing though, rubber hoses are not the most ridged, so installing them, under the manifold where your hand doesn't fit, can prove almost impossible! After struggling for 30 minutes to try to get the new hose on the metal tube, i had the idea to pull the oil dipstick, clean it off, slide it through the new hose, guide it under the manifold and stick the tip into the opening of the metal hose on the EGR tube. Once the tip is touching the opening, the hose slides right on!

Hopefully this helps someone else out that is having a bear of a time trying to get new hoses onto their EGR tube.

My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

That works quite well.

I had to do something similar recently with a 3/8" extension to get a heater hose routed under a support bracket.

My credo
From here on down it's uphill all the way!
I have also read that it helps with any hose to warm it up in hot water for a while. Helps the hose to slide onto its tube easier.
