My credo
AF B-47 bombers
I own three Rangers, and have had to drop the fuel tanks in two.
(that was enough!) For any future pump/sender replacement, from
inside the bed, located the area where the unit is located, and carefully
cut out an access hole to R&R without removing tank or bed.
Went to junkyard and cut out a piece from a useless bed, and blended it
over the existing hole in my truck. Photo included.

Very cool. I did a similar "hatch" mod on my old ramcharger when the fuel pump died with a full 40 gallons in the tank. No effin way I was gonna drop that tank!:shok:

Did the same thing to my old 99 Camaro. Just peeled the carpet back in the trunk and took my midget circular saw to it and just bent the sheet metal up to get to the fuel pump. Gotta do what you've gotta do! Whole lot easier than taking the bed off!

We used to put aluminum diamond plate on the floor on in refrigeration walk in boxes I always thought how cool it would look in the bed of a truck but it would quickly Lose It's shine.

I'd make it so you could access the fuel pump and lay the spare tire underneath,. but not today LOL

Just the right size to touch the ground.
On my new to me '01, I had my bed off and pulled back in the time it would have taken me to figure out where the proper cutting tool was and decide on the proper spot to cut the hole, but to each his own. Having a battery powered impact and the proper Torx bit made it fairly simple. Three screws on the filler neck, 6 bolts in the bed and one electrical connector, then lift and slide. A helper makes that last part a lot easier.

I would have potentially lost an eye last year while working on an 88 regular cab I was trying to bring up to par and resell. Happened to be wearing my glasses when the strap popped loose because I hadn't caught threads with the bolt yet. I do have one where I had a hole in the bed over the pump just due to use from work, age, and me absolutely losing my $&#@ when the pump went but rather than keep the hole when I restore it, I'll just replace the bed because of perfection issues. The thought of the odd hole in the bed even though I can cover it for some reason irks me.
