Hi - I had some work done last week and found a drip under the truck when I got home. I traced it up the front left side to the evaporative canister. Hoping someone can tell me if something is missing here as it does not look right to me. Should anything be connected to the two openings on top? Thanks!

It should have a vacuum hose that goes to the intake.
I believe a 4.0 has (or at least had in 1990) an electronic valve that is controlled by the ECU.
The canister catches gas vapors from the tank and vents them into the intake. Purely an environmental device.

Thank you, Nez! Very helpful and much appreciated!

From what I can find it seems the two vent holes on top should have caps on them? If anyone seeing this post can provide a picture as reference that would be great!

Some had caps, some didn't, some only had one. I don't know the rhyme or reason behind which got what.

The caps are there to keep debris and water out, rather than keep anything in.
