I have a 1999 Ranger 4x4 with a 4.0L and automatic transmission that I want some additional cooling for. Does anybody know if a radiator from the same year and spec Explorer will bolt right in? As in direct replacement? Thanks

I don't actually know but I should be surprised if it didn't fit. But it would be a lot easier if you just go with a super duty fan clutch!

Yes 1998-2001 ranger 4.0l and explorer 4.0l use same radiator, but no extra cooling

5.0l explorer radiator was bigger, well taller, and some have made them fit I think, after doing V8 swap.

You might have another issue, stock radiator size is fine for 4.0l with automatic, double core unit, even when pulling a trailer up long grades with AC on and 100deg outside temp, it shouldn't be an issue.

The Ranger radiator core is 1" thick and it will fit in the Explorer as well. There is an Explorer radiator that has a 2" thick core but it doesn't specify that it will fit in the Ranger though it looks identical. Both are for the 99 4.0L engine

I'm running an explorer v8 radiator in mine. There was some issue with the condenser, but I can't remember the details at this point.

My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Watch the hose connection locations. You might have to get creative to find a hose that fits right.
