Hello Forum,

I need to replace my front wheel bearings on the right side. Could someone please explain how to disassemble the 4x4 hub assembly in order to remove the rotor. Do I need special tools? Attached is a photo of the hub.

Thank you,
John

They do make a socket for the big black piece. But can be done without it

You push the first clip off. Then slowly disassemble one piece at a time. Stack it in the order it’s taken off. Reassemble in reverse order. is how I always done them

No special tools needed. Here is a link to replace auto locking with manual. The first half is removing the auto locking equipment. It’s very simple. Keep track of the order things came off.

You’ll be a pro after one. 👍

The removal went smooth. Unfortunately the outer bearing made some metal. Looks like the race fatigued.
Do you know if I need to remove the springs that add tension to the seal to reinstall. See attached photo.

Reinstall went smooth thanks to your posts on this forum. A few notes that may help with anyone's questions.
The small clip removed well using a few small neodymium magnets. A previous post mentioned the grove in the shaft is long enough to push the clip further in which would allow the nut to be removed. I found when I tried this the clip would not push in any further. So I chose to try the magnets. After removing the nut there is metal on the nut that prevents the clip from being pushed in. At least on this nut.

I found to remove the spring clip I used two punches at the same time tapping on the end of each punch at the same time. After the spring clip is removed simply remove each piece and layout on a piece of cardboard in the order they came off. The seal with the two springs will remove with a little effort to reinstall the seal just tap the piece on carefully with a piece of wood. I made a small "y" shaped piece of wood and tapped on the end to slide it back on.IMG_2903.jpg
