love the sight.i m currently looking for a donor for my 87 2wd ranger for a v-8 swap.i looking for a mustang 87-95 with manual as a donor.now my question is will my fuel system be enough for the 87-95 efi mustang or will I have to overhaul it.i was told my truck has a dual fuel pump setup on it.and wasn't sure if rangers fuel system would b good enough.any help would b great.

You do have 2 fuel pumps. One in tank (low pressure) and one on the frame (high pressure). Even a 302 only requires (iirc) 40lbs of fuel pressure to run, which is probably the same PSI as your 4 cylinder.

The 302 will require a much larger (almost double) volume of fuel however, which also should be fine with your stock pumps as they will still get it to 42psi itll just take longer for the regulator to open.

That being said if it were me id replace the line with line, install a older style (no pump just sending unit) sender/pickup, and run a carburated 302 with a mechanical pump. Itll be much eaiser to wire/plumb and be cheaper.

Just my opinion, others will argue otherwise.

Mid 90s+ Explorers are the closest to mid 90s rangers. Not your 87.

The EFI swaps have been done on the older trucks, but the wireing headaches are above my head lol.

The Ranger's fuel system will supply a 5.0 just fine. It is capable of cycling the entire 15 gallon tank in under an hour, much faster than needed to supply that engine.

I used the factory EFI Ranger fuel hanger in the factory tank. My 87 was originally carbed, but the EFI hanger still secures right in to the top of the originally carbed fuel tank. The tanks both had the same part number, so I thought it was worth a try. I installed a high flow fuel pump in the factory Ranger hanger, and ran #6 AN hose to the engine and back for my EFI 302. Works perfectly, and the fuel gauge even works correctly, most of the time...

There seems to be a problem these days with various manufacturers getting the ohm specs right on the sending units for the fuel gauge. I've seen this on my 1987, my 2001, as well as a couple of other trucks that my friends own. This makes the fuel gauge read a little off sometimes..

38 to 44 psi seems to be the acceptable range for 5.0 efi on fords.Obviously you dont want your injectors working at a full duty cycle at all times, but 19lb injectors with a 40 psi pump is a reliable setup from the information I gathered. My 90 f/p seems to work just fine and its a pump from a 2.3L, I had to reroute the fuel lines. So I used 6an fuel line with pushlock fittings and 6an ford efi spring lock fittings for the fuel rail.

My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
You can upload directly here. The image file needs to be small enough (<1mb?). Use the "attach files" button under the message box. Once the file is uploaded, click on full image or thumbnail.

I use an app called image easy resizer on my phone and reduce the image size and save at 70% quality. That gets the file size down nicely.
