So I was an idiot, bought a cheap fuel pump for my 89 BII and it crapped out today. Can anyone recommend and good brands? At this point price is not an issue.

My credo
the grey-t escape
Ive been wondering that too, 2 years ago my fuel pump died and I rigged up a summit inline efi racing pump in the framerail. its pulling through the stock (dead) pump. at 1/2 tank or less it misses alot but above half tank I can run it hard enough to bounce off the rev limiter. really need to fix it right, my rigging will probably fail someday. Id rather fix it while its still nice out. just need to figure out what pump is best.

I put a Bosch pump in my ranger about 5 years ago and haven't had a problem. It's very quiet as well.

You have two choices with fuel pumps, motorcraft or roll the dice.

Did it come with the hanger/sending unit?

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
I installed a Bosch (roll the dice) pump in mine a few years ago. Re-used old sending unit. Everything is good so far.

However, it DOES suck.... The fuel out of the tank and send it to the engine.

Yes it was a complete drop in unit. The fuel gauge is much less forgiving now.
I can't recall how much it was at the time but I probably bought it online through pep boys and picked up at the store. 25 percent discount that way.

Then roll them dice son!!! Seriously though Bosch is usually OK and so are denso. Stay away from spectre. Unfortunately fuel pumps are one of those things that you truly get what you pay for. Almost every off brand ebay/amazon discount pump is dead on arrival or worse yet works for a few months and leaves you stranded.

I've had great luck with Carter pumps (they appear similar enough to the OE pumps I think they may be from the same manufacturer).

I would expect good from Bosch too, though I've not used them.

Motorcraft is generally a safe bet as well.

I've seen the pickups on the spectre pumps cracked and leaking right out of the box. Basically there's no part of that thing that's not complete garbage. I strongly recommend digging a large hole, burying it, and never speaking of it again.
