I've looked around and didn't find much. (Probably a good reason)
But I have been looking into swaping a d50 and sterling into my explorer.
Anyone have any experience with this one?
I can get the axles for less than what it will cost to get a decent 8.8 gear set.
Anyone?:popcorn:

only one i could find, been thinking of putting them under my ranger(the dana 60 version as its stronger, as the 50s have a smaller carrier/necked down shafts).

the springs have to be outboarded though as the perch width is 36.5 or 37.5.



you could also run a jk truss if you want coils
could easily be modified to work with a xj long arm setup(the lower mounts just need changed)

the problem with them is the d/s tube is extremely short and they use the metric bolt pattern

I'd like to have a straight axle 60 but they are like gold around here.
I'm talking the d50 TTB.

The D50 TTB axle with it's leafspring fitment & short driverside beam will be a lot more work to swap in than a D44 TTB from a F-150 or Bronco will, and like Alaskan says, it too has only 30 spline shafts (same size as the D44).

What I would suggest is find a D44 F-150 TTB, then use a D50 TTB centersection and center u-joint on it (they bolt right up). This should add a bit more strength vs running the D44 parts. For the ultimate strength, RCV Performance makes a set of CV axle shafts for it, though they are a little spendy ($2K last I checked).

To fit the D44 TTB properly, you need to either lengthen each beam 1 inch next to the pivot, or redrill your axle pivot brackets 1" inboard of the existing holes (in addition to widening your coil mount spacing).

as he said, dana 44ttb with 8 lug outers(from ford or chevy) to match the sterling rear axle.
just stay away from the 87-88 dana 44 ttb, they have ranger style bearings/top hat lockouts unless you are going with the sterling(8 lug conversion)

the dana 50 ttb as so little to gain over the dana35 ttb , one of ford bad ideas, thankfully there stock perch width is the same as a Dana 60.

I haven't been able to take a tape messure to a set yet.
These were offered to me by a buddy complete with wheels for couple hundred bucks.
Thinking I'm going to reconsider and save all the work for when I get to the ranger.
