Has anyone dropped a 2019+ Ranger 2.3 engine in a pre-2012 Ranger?

How big -is- the 10R80? I found the weight listed quickly (230lb's) but nothing for other dimensions.

A 2.3l ecoboost crate motor lists for $6500. The control pack adds another $2k to that.

Most people have a budget when they're building a project. $8k for an engine in a Ranger seems like it eat up the budget pretty quick. It's more common for people to buy a motor from a wrecked truck.... it's just too soon.
Wrecks are out there, just not from a truck. 4cyl Ecoboost swaps have been done (as noted in my previous post)

So nobody has done a 15K engine & trans swap on a $1500 truck? Huh, weird....

Not really that huge, seemed similar in size to my old A4LD really:

But for the 4wd version what we call the extension housing is now part of the t-case. 2wd would have some sort of housing on the end too.

F-150 version with t-case installed (in F-150 chassis)

Thanks. I remember looking at them in Detroit but didn't have anything side by side for comparison. The weight surprised me, I didn't realize they were quite that solid.

All those plates and planetaries that the case is full of are steel, I bet it adds weight fast.

Stupid little rubber band A4LD is heavier than one would think too (with less than half the gears even on a good day) I bet they are close to 100lbs. Double the gears, make it strong enough to hold real hp... yeah it probably isn't too far off.

As I recall, the 4R70W I've got behind the 5.0 is 170 pounds. It's healthy, but not quite that big-boned.

Thanks everyone who actually added something meaningful to this.

For those of us looking to upgrade our drivetrains and don’t necessarily like the size of the new Rangers or the high up stubby beds, is why I threw this idea out there. Maybe in 3-5 years it’ll be a more practical swap. Idk

Calling people retarded and irrelevant was far worse than anything posted by others in the thread.

Bullshit! I love how so many people today can dish it out, but when I call them out on it, I’m the bad guy.

I can’t believe what I read and hear half the time anymore on here or elsewhere. Society has completely lost it.

So because I ask sincerely about an engine swap and at least a few people immediately posted pointless and some of them rude comments, I’m in the wrong here?

👍

When people act... retarded, literally, I’m going to call it what it is, regardless of anti America PC culture.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Btw, dirtbag was being irrelevant.. as usual! 😆
Actually, his first reply to this thread very succinctly answered your questions. It didn't include much detail. But the answers were there.

if you think we were acting retarded in this post, you should dog deeper in some other ones. your question got answered, and some of the guys got a few shots in. harmless fun. If you are a no-nonsense guy and want straight answers all the time, be prepared to stay pissed off, or learn to roll with us here as we riff on the noobs and help out who we can.
