Has anyone seen this before?

I'm curious what the A in A75 stands for. I've never seen it in this location before. And I've looked at a lot of axle tags. I believe this to be a junk yard replacement on my 86.

P.S. its a 3.45 Open Diff. And it's on the 86 Ranger, Maybe its from a minivan, the Aerostar I think. I don't know.

I've never tried to apply any logic beyond the ratio and axle size part IE 3 45 75 or 3L73 88 or whatnot, in my opinion that's all that matters for functionality to me anyway.

The problem Im having is, the A before 7 5. And its not marked LS but I get Posi Burnouts. I should open the pumpkin diff and take a peak.

The “A” before the axle code is for alternate... The 7.5 axle was in high demand during the late 80s and early 90s. They were all cast in the same plant, but the machine shops couldn’t keep pace. Ford outsourced the machining to an alternate vendor to keep up. They tagged all the outsourced axles with an A, so they could keep track of warranty repairs and back bill the outside vendor in case of major failures.

Actually, I have no clue what it means and made 100% of that up... but it sounded good. I have seen it before on an 8.8 tag.

Alright, so the A stands for a guy named "Alex" that works in the "Axle" division. Whom decided to tag all of thee "Alternate" (outsourced) rear ends for ease of Identifying later on if needed.
