How many miles is a 4.0 good for?

My credo
Ambitious, but rubbish.
Mine has 250,000 + on it and the only engine problems so far are a bad EGR system(easy fix) and an oil leak. (Could be tricky). Until I get the front end back together, it only gets started about once every 2 weeks just to keep fluids circulating and seals hydrated but it starts right up and seems to be ok.

Engine is at 192k, body 131k
Inspected top and bottom end at 184k when I got the engine, the bearings were replaced at some point. All gaskets were replaced, whole damn thing got cleaned out. No leaks, runs great. Just the normal ticking in the valve department.

My 07 Ranger 4.0 only has about 50,000 miles on it, but no issues yet. Runs great! Only getting about 11-16 mpg, though. Depending on type of driving and when.

185,000 and going strong. Replaced the timing cover gasket once, valve cover gaskets a couple of times. Replaced the pushrods and rockers. Runs like the day it was new!

I have a 4.0 4wd ranger that has 241000 miles on it right now. I don't know if it has had another engine swapped in or not. I bought it with over 200000 on it. It burns a little oil, but if you punch the gas, you better hold on to something. It will get up and move still. The 4wd compenents were all worn out when I bought it, but other than that the trans, engine, etc is unkillable.

The 4.0, like any motor is good until the bearings are worn to nothing and the piston rings are so worn they won't seal to a glazed cylinder wall. The pushrods do have an oiling issue so if you hear a ticking from the valvetrain I'd replace the pushrod before it wears the rocker and the material circulates through the bearings. Other than that they have a lot of positives if well maintained. Factory roller cam, gaskets seal well, it looks cool if you clean up everything around it, and it makes good power for its size. I built one for my Bronco II that still had the factory crosshatch in the cylinders so I didn't even check the bearings or oil pump. It has perfect oil pressure, no smoke, plenty of power for that truck, and I only had issues with worn out sensors. I shift at about 4 grand too and after 5,000 miles since I put it in it still doesn't complain. Plus it gets about 25 mpg with the 5 speed. I'm a small block Chevy guy and I really like the ohv 4.0.

If you can't go through it or around it, then go over it.
Can’t beat a 4.0l OHV with a stick. As long as you take care of it they last forever..... longer than a Toyota

203,000 on my 96 sploder. Had a tad of a bottom end rattle between shifting. But still runs great and has plenty of power with the m5od. Had to do the intake gasket on it. Was gushing coolant out the front.

I have 250k on my 93 XLT 4x4 extended cab. It does have a tap in cold weather until it warms up but runs strong. Just rebuilt the trans at 248k.
