is the part your referring to pictured here?

if so, its part of the lifter and isnt available by itself. you need to replace the entire lifter.

the overseas engines must have extra parts in them. in the american motors, the pushrods ride right in that little "cup" on the top of the lifters.

im not sure what to tell ya. when i had the top end of my 3.0 apart, there wasnt anything between the pushrods and the lifters, and according to both my repair manuals, the 4.0 is the same way. unless both manuals are leaving a step out...

the 4.0's are somewhat notorious for ticking due to abnormally high pushrod wear...maybe adding those parts was someones idea of a fix-it job

Funnels I got!!

Rolf,

The answer he gave you is correct - you just have some slightly different parts - if the funnel is off your lifter, you need new lifters. Evidently some engines have slightly different parts.

I've got a 92 Explorer 4.0 and a 99 Ranger 4.0 sitting in my garage right now with the intakes off. All the lifters in each engine has a little funnel - as you call it - that is part of the lifter. Check ebay - somebody was selling a complete set of rebuilt lifters reasonably cheap.
