Has anyone done any sort of forced induction on the 2.9? I was thinking a California MAF conversion and a Centrifugal Supercharger with an electric clutch so that I have boost when I need it and Fuel economy when I dont. Any Thoughts? On my 1991 Ranger 4x4

Switched superchargers have existed, but they are pretty rare. You can't just slap a AC compressor type clutch on any old supercharger because the air cant flow past the vanes while it's not spinning. You'd essentially just be closing the entire intake off (i.e shutting the engine off)

This is why turbo chargers are better for fuel economy because the boost pressure and vanes can be adjusted on the fly to provide power, or economy.

Only a sadomasochistic would put any kind of forced induction on 2.9L...

Nope. Never.

That's my 2.9 with an Eaton M62 electric clutch supercharger.

Don't waste your time with a MAF conversion. Megasquirt that 2.9.

I already did all the hard work with the help of many, especially deathbypsi), and posted the programming here for free ?

Read all of this. I already went down the path you're taking.

There wouldn't be enough coolant left in a post apocalyptic wasteland to keep a 2.9 running...

I had seen those! I'll definitely look into that. Where would I get a megasquirt setup, out of curiosity?

DIY AutoTune is a good place to start. Used ones can be had on eBay on the cheaper side. Microsquirt is the one I'd recommend, or if you can find one, watch eBay for one called a DIYPNP.

There's another shop near philly pa that sells pre fab units that are ready to plug into a Ford 60 pin harness. They're around ~$500 or so.

If you search the "really, really bad idea" thread, deathbypsi posted a video of doing the install on his BII. Took 20-30 mins.

Mine took three days, but the majority of that time was spent in my driveway with a laptop trying to make it run. There was nothing out there that was made public for the 2.9 before I posted all my crap to a bunch of sites.

@rusty ol ranger you were right. ?
