Inertia switch

I have an 86 Bronxo 2 and the previous owner bypassed the inertia switch. The wiring harness that’s now in its place has overheated 3x and essentially melted. I can’t seem to figure out why. Anyone else have similar issues?

The wiring harness that’s now in its place has overheated 3x and essentially melted. I can’t seem to figure out why.

It’s melted from too high of a load placed on too small of a wire. Either there’s a short to ground or a component drawing too many amps.

For higher amp draws, like fuel pumps, 16 gauge wire, stranded, is common, some times 14ga
Stranded wire is important vs solid wire, as used in home electrical services, because of the lower voltage, 12vDC, used in vehicles
Never use home(120vAC) wire with 12vDC system

Wire gauge/size is also important
Wire gauge is a reverse number 14ga is larger than 18ga, most vehicle wiring is 18ga, but higher amp use devices like Blower/Fan and fuel pump use a larger gauge

Connections are very important, a poor connection will heat up, a corroded connection will heat up and cause wires to heat up
