In a car that has sat unused for the better part of a year I found the battery was dry. The bat. was getting discharged/or unable to hold a charge while it's barely 3 or so years. Reason, popped the caps and found it had zilch bat. acid. Not even a drip, in any of the cells. Refilled with DI water and all cells test about 2ish volts. I don't want to give up on this bat. yet, it's an AGM type.

Question is I know we can refill with DI water when acid is running low but can it be filled with no acid but DI water only?
How much acid is in a 12v Group Size H8, 900 CCA battery or any regular size 12v car battery?

My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
I wouldn't think that you should or could add water to an AGM type battery.

Regardless of that issue. If you are going to add water to a battery. It must be distilled water. Tap water, spring water, etc. Have minerals in them that conduct electricity and will short out and destroy the cells of the battery.

Doing things wrong, until I get it right.
Walmart has $50 batteries with 1yr warranty,

That's how I would fix that dead battery.

You gotta have acid, and the acid that was in there didn't just evaporate.

I know, I already have that bat. in my Camry. For that much they ain't got a group H8 that I have seen.

What's your best guess on what became of the liquid acid? I have read AGM types don't contain liquid, is that correct? I don't know much about AGM bats., this is my first one, it came with the car.

Leaked or boiled out from overcharging.

IMO it is a bad battery.

I poop in the furnace.
Absorbed glass mat batteries are still lead acid batteries. The acid is absorbed in the glass mats and not just flooded around the plates as a typical battery.

All car batteries are not ment to be completely discharged and become damaged when they do. AGM batteries are way more susceptible to damage when drained and stored dead. Your battery is toast.
