is it possible to convert a D35 front axles to CV joint?

Is it at all possible to convert the front u-joints on a D35 in my 92 ranger to CV joints of some kind?

Anything is possible with enough time/money invested in it, the biggest question is why? You could always get some custom shafts made, not sure what that would run you. Might also be possible to cut down and respline a set of Grand Cherokee shafts, but I am not positive on that one.

If I was to try this, I'd look at possibly using Longfield CVs (aftermarket Birfields for a Toyota). They come in both 27 and 30 spline versions.
The biggest issue will be incorporating the TTB slip-shaft on the right side though (IIRC Rough Country makes CV half-shafts for a Chevy that have slip-splines on them, maybe something from those could be used to make it happen?)

As said, enough time & money, anything's possible.

i am doing a explorer v8 awd swap into my 92 and would like to keep it awd... there is someone already using this setup with the ttb and u-joint front end... but there would be less binding and such on the corners with cv joints.

the AWD is more in the transfer case then it is in the CV axles. granted CV's are smoother at high throws then u-joints...but i dont see why u-joints would be that bad with the proper t-case.

i wonder how hard it would be to convert a TTB front end to SLA from a 2000+ truck? thatd probably be your best bet if articulation isnt part of the picture.

Yeah, I think it's probably more effort than it's worth. All 3 Ford, Dodge and GM produced fulltime 4WD trucks with u-jointed frontends at some point. The only time you'll really notice the u-joints is when turned close to full-lock.

why not sell the TTB truck and buy a SLA ? it'd be a hell of a lot easier. Ive thought about the V8 awd idea ...lower it, and make it a import eater lol

the other thing to think about is the small roller bearing in the spindle for the stub shaft.it probably isen't rated for constant use and higher speeds.a part time transfer case would be best in that truck.
