Is it possible to have no PS fluid leaks?

I've never seen a Ford ranger without fluid oil all over the pump, reservoir and the hoses, I have a set of hoses that will get installed "someday" pretty sure my return hose is leaking. but! where does it leak when you have the truck up jacks and you move the wheels left right and back?

I can live with it but I sure would like clean up the engine compartment someday!

I'm trying to get to that point.

I resealed my PS pump the other day, but I haven't put the engine back in yet, so I don't know if I'm done or not.

Engine won't go back in until I get the trans rebuild, so I can throw them in together, and parts for the trans won't get ordered until next weekend when I get paid for the jobs I did this week.

So where does it leak, behind the pulley at theseal? I take it there's some sort of pressure release akso if it comes out when you move the steering against the pump when it's not running

out the fill tube.
when you push/turn the wheels without the pump running the ram inside the rack pushes on the fluid and the path of least resistance is right out the top of the reservoir.

neither of my Rangers leak ps fluid.

I thought this would be a thread about Passenger Side fluid leaks. It's an old truck. Something is gonna leak.

this is true
3.5 years experience at one of the BEST brake shops in town. I've seen it happen while the mechanic turned the wheel, fluid shot straight out of the cap.
the mechanic was a die hard chevy guy and called it FORD PISS. lol

the grey-t escape
Mine leaks more when it sits. If I happen to not drive it a couple of weeks it will leak, and need refilled. But if I drive it every day, no issues. I seriously considered converting to manual steering but can’t find a manual pitman arm anywhere. Even though you can still get a manual box. My ‘93 4x blew the pitman shaft seal and wouldn’t hold oil more than 10 min. That’s when the wide tires came off and I went to trailer tires up front. Then decided to retire it due to a few other issues. I park outside in gravel so it’s not too big of a deal now. Just annoying. Fords way of rust prevention on drivers side framerail.

Mine was leaking behind pulley at the shaft seal. If I didn't drive it for a day or so you could see a puddle on top of the steering box.

The pump is not hard to tear down and reseal. Fumbling through it and getting interrupted by the kids left and right it only took a little over an hour.

My '86 does not leak! It did, for the longest time. Super irritating to have oil all over my nice shiny DOM steering linkage and heims. I resealed the pump and put a new steering box in... problem solved. Now the front diff leaks everywhere.

Everything else I have leaks power steering fluid to some extent. My daily driver leaves about a 4" puddle every day between 8AM and 4:30PM.

mine leaks everything everywhere... but yeah, they leak out the vent hole in the fill cap when you turn them with the engine not running or hit the stops too much. I had the pressure hose leaking like heck and replaced it, cheap and easy just awkward to get the wrenches in at the right angles...

My biggest leak now is the output shaft seal, the FA600 drop pitman arm is not nice to the output shaft that has near 300k on the clock...

I'm also in the crowd of leaking everything... the most frustrating is the oil leaks that have to be turbo related, leaks about 1.5 quart per tank of gas, has all the oil pressure but think the turbo shaft seal is leaking (smokes out exhaust after engine rebuild) and the drain back tube has to be leaking, none are fun to fix...

Mine pops the top on the fill tube and sprays P/S fluid all over the underside of the hood around where the underhood light is. Then it rains down onto the engine mucking up the intake runners, valve cover, and just about any wiring I want to mess with. You'll get pink hands working with these things. Wish I knew why...

Mine doesn't leak, knock on wood. My last one leaked only due to rusted out lines. At one point in every trucks life (First year?) there are no leaks lol unless you bought a chevy lol.
