I'm tearing apart a 1985 Ford 2.3l to put in my Willy's CJ3-A and when I was turning the motor over on the stand, this fell out. Does anyone have any idea where it goes? I've tried to mate it up to the crankshaft and to the rods but haven't had any luck. All help is appreciated.

I don't know but you should put a ruler in the pic so size can be shown.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

yes, yes. a ruler like this would tell exactly how big an inch is compared to your mystery part.

Must be from Knott's Berry Farm miniature world

Paper towel is fine to get size
I have one of those at home :)

Way to thick for a bearing and curve is not enough, yes could be a balancer weight for crank but never pulled apart a Lima engine so can't say, and it would be odd, IMO, to balance a crank that way, usually you drill out a hole to lose weight, or drill a hole and fill it with heavier metal to add weight
To put a weight like that on a rotating mass like a crank shaft would be just asking for trouble, lol, if/when it came loose it would put a hole in oil pan, break a piston, or................?? but nothing good

That was my thought too. It doesn't make any sense to me. The fact that it was loose in the motor can't be good either.

That's the ferric consternation engine additive strip. It looks bent.

In the late 80s they discontinued those and replaced them with the petroleum polymer consternation transmission bulbs.

"consternation" would be the key word in adsm08's part description , hopefully it was in jest, hate to think he took a trip to fantasy island without the rest of us :)

It looks like bronze or copper. Is it magnetic? I can't think of anything except someones bracelet got lost. But the hole in the center sure looks like an oil passage in a bearing.

I just got done not to long ago tearing apart an 2.3 Lima and i can ell you i did not find anything like that in the engine tore down. Honestly idk what that is, its way to thick and not curved enough to be a bearing the hold in the middle though is strange like an oil passage. I'm surprised there's no hole in the oil pan from that skipping around loose
