Id like to get my cruise (and AC) working in rusty 2.0...thinking ill tackle the cruise first.

Everything seems to work, but its real jerky, you set it and its constantly on and off the pedal a great deal.

My speedometer also bounces around..,.

My question is what exactly tells the cruise speed? I know its off vaccuum somehow, but theres no cable running to anything under hood.

So if i installed a new speedo cable/speed sensor would that have any effect? Or am i totally off here. Never dealt with cruise.

Its factory and not dealer installed.

There is a two wire harness going down to the VSS on the tail end of the trans tells the system the speed. On your EFI truck it is buried in the harness that goes to the fuel tank and cab lighting.

In my experience surging cruise surging cruise is a vacuum problem. Check all the vacuum connections, make sure the reservoir is in the system and working and check the check valve and the dump valve on the brake pedal.

I drove to Ohio and back with the speedo bouncing between 55 and 65 (GPS was saying 60mph) and the cruise worked great aside from some impact related issue in Illinois for a ways going out that made it surge. I think the vacuum check valve was hitting the steel inner fender hard and sticking the insides. After Illinois on the way out it went thru Indiana and Ohio and then all the way back home without issue.

I thought this would be a thread about discovering and sampling spicy dried strips of meat in different geographical areas.

My experience has been that if the cruise holds on, but it surges like that within a 10MPH window (5 on either side of the speed you want) it is usually the speed sensor on the trans/transfer case. A larger surge indicates a vacuum issue.

Thats what its doing.

Ill set it at 60 itll go between 55-65.

I dont know, im gonna look it over good with what 85 said to. The cruise never cancels itself or fails to cancel when i hit the clutch/brake.

Hey Rusty, I just checked the '87 Ford Shop Manual and there's 23 pages on the Speed Control System. I was going to post the flow charts for the problems you mentioned, but the flow charts refer to specific tests described in the other pages. I can't copy them all right now, but if you still need them tomorrow afternoon I'll send you all 23 pages.

it is easier to fix and understand than "her"
likely the speedo gear needs changed or the vss shaft the gear rides on is worn enough it needs both a gear and vss now.

I don’t think Gump has mentioned opening a new pizza joint. He’s moving pretty far north. But hey, we have members in Canada. So how far is too far? I bet if we show up he’ll make us some pizza.
