M5R1 and clutch cover sheet metal for 2.9...is the sheetmetal peice different? I got three all basically the same (2 a4ld and 1 fm145) pictured here. Seems the bottom and maybe the very top area are different when I line it up to my new tranny:

Front of my new tranny:

Ready to install the flywheel except for this! :annoyed:

FWIW, when I swapped out my FM-146, I used the same one when I put in the M5OD.

Does it rattle with only one sheet metal screw holding the lower portion?

NONE of the aluminum plates will work if you are using the 4.0 flywheel

If you are still using a 2.9 flywheel then any of them will work well enough.

or you can leave it off if it amuses you to.

BTW, you do know that the tranmission you have pictured is a close ratio 4.0 trans....

the 146 plate will work with the 146 tranny and 4.0l flywheel if the starter hole is enlarged slightly.i'm not sure but i think the m5od bellhousing has a different shape where it hangs down after the bellhousing pattern on the motor.a m5od plate from a 4.0l should work.on my 2.9l if you leave out the lower 8mm bolt the plate rattles.to be sure what will work find a plate that matches the bellhousing,i don't know if the 2.9l m5od has a different shape than the 4.0l m5od.if not then-:icon_welder: just kidding!

Using 2.9 flywheel, clutch and starter.

Huh...well guess I'll found out how it works with a 2.9...

AllanD, have you left this plate out? Any downside to leaving it out? I thought about this and cutting just the bottom piece to bolt onto the tranny bellhousing to keep junk out.

Yes the plates and bellhousings have a sligthly different shape below the engine oil pan rails....slightly and bolt hole difference.
