My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Sorry. Couldn't link that way. I edited my post and added the PDF as an attachment.

I found ONE at the JY Saturday. Looking thru manuals of late '00's F-150's, Explorers and Expeditions I could find no mention of them which kind of fits my theory they never had the compass in the mirror since they had compass/temp either in a OHC or on the dash since the early '00's.

The one I did find was in a Lincoln LS. It had the auto dimming module behind the mirror like everything else but had a second module farther down the glass I assume for the compass. On a sloped car windshield there is more glass to hide stuff behind the mirror, with a more vertical Ranger glass I am not sure how well it would out. Of course the mirror glass on this one was messed up.

Research continue...

Interesting. All the ones I have used have the auto-dimming function built into the mirror and a snap-on compass module at the base where it mounts to the windshield. Never saw one with that big rectangular box attached. I just got my latest mirror connected and working yesterday in my '97 F150.
