Nope... none of the evap or emissions stuff would. That's what I'm trying to explain to him. Single cylinder codes have to be something that ONLY effects one cylinder. Valves, compression, spark, or fuel injector.

The pcv system is unrelated but oil in the intake and throttle body is a clear symptom that the system has reversed because the valve is stuck.
If hes checked fuel and spark all thats left is compression. Thats why i suggested it lol

Try moving the spark plug over and see if the miss follows it. Same with the sparkplug wire.

I understand it's intermittent. What I'm asking is whether the computer always indicates that the misfire is on cylinder 3 specifically.

Round.
My credo
I poop in the furnace.
It's also waste spark. 3 coils, but each coil fires two spark plugs at once. One fires when it actually needs to ( end of compression stroke) and one is "wasted" by firing on the exhaust stroke. You can swap the coil around on those 2 cylinders and see if the miss moves to the other cylinder.

But still... like fastpakr said need confirmation that this is only happening on ONE cylinder and not a multi cylinder miss.

If it's not always on the same cylinder, you could just be dealing with a misfire caused by oil fouling.
