i have an 87 extended cab ranger........what engine will replace my 2.9l as a direct bolt-up to the factory 5-speed transmission?

Another 2.9 is the only true direct bolt on engine. The 4.0 will go in there with a 4.0 radiator, exhaust and wiring amoung other parts.

To the transmission, any 2.8, 2.9, 3.0 or 4.0 engine. But you'll need to swap all kinds of other stuff to make anything else besides the 2.9 run.

ya beat me to it! as every one else has already said, the 2.9l is the only thing that you can put back in with out switching a bed load of other parts. what happened to the original one, too many miles or catastrophic cluster F**k?

My old a still current engine has almost 200,000 original miles.... Its got a baaaadd valvetap, needs a cam nd lifters, ect. My baby needs A LOT of lovin
