Hi all,

I'm starting my stockish build here in the next couple of weeks.

For a little bit of background look at this thread:

https://www.therangerstation.com/forums/index.php?threads/new-guy.179030/

Pictures in the current state.

Goals as of now are:

1. Getting the stock 2.8 running (shouldn't be too difficult)
2. Changing all fluids
3. Replacing worn interior components (just picked up a great deal this weekend)
4. Fixing AC
5. Paint Job

One question I have is how do you tell if a RBV came from the factory with AC vs dealer add on?

I am also in need of the manual hub lock outs for the D28 if anyone has a set laying around. The stock ones are fine. The current ones on the BII are melted from brakes that over heated once upon a time.

Pics of the interior I went and got this weekend. The seats are in great shape, even the dash is in great shape! I feel lucky to score this from a guy parting out his BII in Indiana. This is more than I needed, but you can't find this stuff anymore. Next step will be to go haul the BII from Western KY to my house in East TN. That will most likely be next weekend.

Did the guy in Indiana have any BII doors with the wing windows?

No, he only had doors with the one piece glass. I doubt those doors are much good. It was sadly rusting out pretty bad. Above KY is pretty tough on cars from what I can find.

Well I finally managed to get the BII home! Made for a long day of driving (4 hours there, 4 hours back), but it was worth it.

As soon as it got it home, I took the pressure washer to it. I am shocked of the lack of rot on this thing. There is some surface rust, but no rot on the panels.

I spent a while cleaning out the engine bay from the birds nest and all and surprisingly the wiring appears to be in pretty good condition.

I went and got a battery to throw in it, it turned over and tried to stumble and maybe start, but just couldn't do it.

My plan from now are:

1) remove carb and rebuild it
2) replace coil (old was was covered in birds nest)
3) replace spark plugs and wires (distributor caps looks new)
4) plumb a clear filter to the carb (have to look into this and see how difficult it is)
5) clean out the dirty interior it has now

Any tips on the 2.8 are welcomed, this is my first journey into working on a truck with a carb (all carb experience I have is on small engines)

From what ive read its best to scrap the stock carb and use a (IIRC) 2150 carb and also duraspark the ignition system.

My concern is with the A4LD trans. It has OD, I would like to keep it.

Haven't read much of people doing the swap with the auto trans on an 85.

More pics since I have pressured washed the exterior and vacuumed out the inside.

Good point. Im not sure how it would work with an A4LD. Its vaccuum shifted but does have a cpu controlled lockup.

Are you sure its an a4ld? IIRC the 84 came with a C5 ( 3 speed auto ). The earlier years a4ld trans lockup you can control with a spst switch. No need to keep the cpu.

It is a '85 model year. I found the owners manual and all in the glovebox. It's like a time machine in there!

It also has the overdrive emblem on the back hatch... The shifter also has the OD and D locations.
