So I've had an issue with it starting irregularly for about a month now and I've replaced the starter and it's still doing the same thing. I got under it and loosened and moved the park position senor around and it started up first turn of the key but it's doing it again, I have a new sensor for it but I'm wondering if I can just bypass it for now? I just need to know which wires to splice together so if you can show a picure or tell me the color wires I need to wire together the would be great. It's a 1996 ranger 2.3 automatic 4r44e transmission.

1) When it acts up, does it start in Neutral?

2) You will spend more time splicing wires (and cause more issues because of it) than you would just putting the new sensor that is already in your possession on the vehicle.

Yes it does start in neutral I have to move the shifter through all the gears and put it back in park or neutral and it start's up after a couple clicks

OK, that does kinda sound like the park contact is worn out.

I would not try to bypass it to make it start because if you wire around the sensor you will take out things like your reverse lights, and some signals the computer uses to make decisions about transmission shift patterns. Just put the new on it, it's only two bolts.
