Has anybody seen/tried this?

Force Performance Chip/Programmer for Ford Explorer

Someone asked me about this, sounds too good to be true, but, I'v been wrong before....

And while we're on the subject, is there any "chip" type mods for the 4.0l OHC that do work??

Thanks for any info!

It's useless. At BEST they do nothing. Most of them are literally just a fake circuit with a blinking light. The ones that do "something" just screw with the maf sensor to give it a false reading to either make the engine run too lean or too rich. Which is worse than the fake blinky light...

For 60 bucks just buy some flame decals for your hood. That has a better chance of increasing performance.

And no, there are no chip type mods that do anything. You can use a tuner to change some stuff and get minor performance improvements but on a stock engine it's not really worth it since a good tuner costs $300 or more and the stock tune is already good for a stock engine. If you add a ton of other upgrades then the tuner can really make a difference.

Chips don't do anything except make the engine run a little richer in choke mode all the time. Best is a custom tuner from Torrie at Unleashed Tuning. I don't have one myself but others on the Sport Trac boards swear by it.

I have a custom tune on my ‘03. Was done with the truck on a dyno at a competent speed shop. With custom K&N cold air set up, low restriction exhaust, nothing much else got it to 225hp. Much improved acceleration and low end torque. They remapped shift points, etc. it was done 10+ years ago, was $250-300 if I remember right. Gas mileage went south if you keep your foot in it. I’m still happy with the investment.
