I have found this website and others like it extremely helpful in picking wheels for my ranger. I thought I should contribute because it was so helpful.

I decided to purchase Cragar Soft 8's in silver. I chose 17x8 wheels. They are 4" back space and zero offset. I believe that essentially means that where they mount to the truck is in the very center of the wheel.

For tires I went with 235 65 17's. I used a tire size calculator to compare these to stock in order to determine how much taller and wider they would be. The overall diameter increased by 1.63 inches. The new tires are 0.39 inches wider.

I went with this size because I wanted to fill the wheel well up a little more with rim and not tire. I wasn't looking to raise the truck per se, just give it a more modern look with more rim than tire. I also did not want to go with fancy aftermarket wheels. I can really appreciate the stock look of a truck and chose these wheels because they are found on many trucks with stock wheels. ( mostly gmc and Chevy work trucks but..)

Stock 15s with DJM 4/5 drop.

Rear test fit of 2012 Mustang 18x8 factory option wheels. Spacers will arrive Thursday so I'll mount them all. I'm getting antsy.

235/75/R15 Goodyear Wrangler Radials I pulled off my YJ.
Stock 15x7 wheels with 4.5" backspace.
I'm probably going to go back to 225/70/R15 and put these back on the Jeep.
IMO the smaller tires on the truck made it feel like there was more 'get up and go'.

A while back, I was considering a set of Ford Flex rims for the truck, but didn't want to have to bore the centers or get spacers installed so I went with the American Racing rims pictured above. But they would have looked good:
