Should there be any play in a rebuilt gear box from Motorcraft? There is a little bit in mine, maybe 1/6 of a turn. Wondering if this is normal or if I should tighten it a bit.

My credo
I poop in the furnace.
A box rebuilt BY motorcraft, or a motorcraft box that's been rebuilt? Those are vastly different things...

1/16" play in what?

input shaft, output shaft

I would think it would be fine, wouldn't translate to too much play at steering wheel

a 1/6 of a turn (not 1/16 inch). So I can move the input shaft about 1/6 of a full turn before the pitman arm will move. Seems like a lot to me.

I got it from Summit, I dunno...

I am guessing I should see if I can tighten it a 1/4 turn?

Usually, adjusting these boxes to tighten them up ends badly. Premature wear, or locking up, etc..

My thought exactly, thats why I asked here first. I am putting in a Borgeson shaft this week, so we will see if that helps my slop at all. From there we'll see what;s up.
