rack and pinion "rattle"

ive got a slight rattle coming from my rack and pinion. its side to side play and im wondering if there is any kind of inner tied rod thats replacable under the rubber boot, or if i need a whole ned r & p?? TIA

Yes you can take the boots off and there are inner tierod ends under there.

You would need a special socket to get them off as well as install the new ones. I would take the truck to an alignment shop and have it done as that is where it would need to be after the parts were installed.

i work at an alignment shop and im familiar with that sorta thing, but ive never had to replace the inner stuff on a ranger though. is the tool a ford only tool, or can i get it from snap on or matco?
