Radiator sprung a small leak that allowed the system to overheat. Bought a new rad, picked up new hoses and thermostat as well, because why not? I'm waiting on the gasket for the thermostat to be delivered, decided to drain the fluid, loosen a few bolts here and there, etc. I realized that the center of the radiator fan is cracked in several places. I can't find a replacement for it online. I don't feel too keen on wiring an electric fan in, would a mechanical fan for a 97 4.0 Ranger fit?

I'm thinking it will. I was looking thru a wrecking yard last week and became aware of the B-series similarities, and about decided the major difference is the body, and the assembly bolts. Seems the Rangers assembled here employ more standard sizes during assembly, and the B Mazda assembled in Japan I suppose use all metric. Other than that I was surprised at the similarities.
I also gave the fan a good look, it appears less cracked than mine. Both are 4.0 and manual shift. The fan shroud ( replaced a water pump on mine not too long ago} and attachments are identical. Just unbolt the shroud and hang it on the fan, unbolt the radiator and remove it. move the alternator out of the way, use the loaner tools to break the fan loose and I think that's about it, just lift the whole shroud and fan assembly out together

Another PS here. I think most of the fans have left hand threads, mine has right hand, it's even stated on the shroud

appreciate the reply, gonna go through with the planned repair and order another fan next paycheck. Not the best of solutions, but with both vehicles down, we need something that runs now. thanks again

I just realized yours is a 97, mines a 94. I noticed cracks in my fan when I bought it, 12 years ago. Still driving it as it was (the fan anyway) over 100,000 miles later

I bought a new fan off eBay I believe because mine was so damaged it was about to fly apart. Seems to be made of the same material as OEM and works great. Just make sure you match part numbers to the one that came with your truck if possible.
