ok i have a ranger 2.9L lifted with 31s and my friend has a 2.8L lifted S10 the old style ones, he thinks his is the shit. if i raced him who do you think would win because i have a auto and hes manual, iv read the old s10s were dogs but my ranger aint no raisin hell eather. i would just go race him but i dont have a liecens yet . and dont werry we wouldnt be rice heads racing through the suburbs.

theres more to consider here then just engine size. and for that matter, the 2.8 s-10 i had was no dog at the races (for what it was anyway).

gearing and tire size will have the single largest effect on the outcome of a race like this. it will also depend on if your buddy knows how to drive a stick.

I have a friend with an 85 S-10 with the 2.8, and 'dog' is an understatement. It's an auto, so that may have an effect on it, but that thing is so slow its rediculous. It's bone stock and if it were to go up against my '88 with 31's it would be eatin dust.

My grandfathers '89 S-10 with a 2.8 is pretty spunky, it would whup my sick 2.8 all day long.
