If off road manners are an important factor to you {not sure how serious of a off roader you are} I would lean away from a turbo gas motor setup. A positive displacement blower setup is much better suited for off roading with its instant boost and torque at the tip of the throttle.
Either setup up would be a blast on the street but myself would lean towards a turbo setup for the ease of intercooler routing and very little parasitic engine power losses compared to a belt driven blower.

I'm actually starting to lean towards a turbo due to performance characteristics and ease. I keep looking at my brand new stainless exhaust and the spot where my catalytic converters sit and keep thinking to myself how easily a T3/T4 would bolt right in that area with minimal effort.

Duhhhhhhhhhhhh??? ? ?

It seems like it would be less work with my headers. Idk. Open to suggestions.

So. Not to depart the text too broadly, but this ugly old bastard fell into my lap, along with all of its plumbing, flanges, intercooler, exhaust components, etc.

TD04HL-13T out of a Volvo V70 XC with a 2.5l I5.

Opinions and thoughts, as always, are welcomed and appreciated!

The intercooler for it is freaking gigantic, so would have to find a different one, or go snag one of the bumper or fender mounts out of a Vw or Audi.

So this showed up in the mail today.

As per @adsm08 advice.

Going to double check in the am, but it looks like it gives me a damn near perfect 2:1 drive ratio, and bolts directly on to a 2.9 crank.

Mentlegen, I think we have a f*cking ballgame here.

I can hardly contain myself waiting for the rod through the block clanging sounds.

But seriously, hurry up. Get on it.

Planning a thrash weekend to work out wiring crap, and finish the install on the methanol system and electric over hydraulic steering. If I can get those two finished up, supercharger is in sight.

Back of the envelope math says 9-10 psi. Here's to hoping for nine.

Well. Test fit wasn't awesome. Looks like it had an X shaped spacer on the back of it, and mine didn't come with one.

Back on the phone with rhe machine shop...

Side note, and before I have a spacer made, does anyone know if the 2.8 and 2.9 harmonic balancers interchange?

Confirmation photos. Fit the damper on a junk block. A 2.8 damper will fit a 2.9.

There is one thing worrying thing: The 2.9 damper is a compression fit, and the 2.8 is not. The 2.8s slid on the end of the crank perfectly, but it's not one that has to be drawn in like the 2.9 damper. There is no play, though.

Need some advice on if this represents a problem.

No movement as in you used a magnetic base and dial indicator to check?
I'm not sure what tolerance in movement would be acceptable. I think if there was any movement at all you would eventually waller out the crank or damper, or both. But it might also last for 10s of thousands of miles.
Waiting for smarter or more knowledgeable minds to chime in.

Found this today in a jeep forum. All of a sudden, I figured out EXACTLY how I'm going to mount this thing.

Woo-hoo! I kinda know what I'm doing again!!

Finished up the installation, programming, and testing of the water/methanol injection system yesterday. I think I'm running too much for a N/A engine right now, but that's OK. I have the spray set up to activate at WOT only. If I time it just rigjt, I get a nice, smooth torque boost on a delay. It does immediately end all labor knocking, though (yes, I know I have my spark run up a little too much). Hopefully this will be effective as a chemical intercooler, and to keep the rotors cool. Something tells me this blower is a little small for a 2.9, but I can't rationalize moving up in size to the M90. The bigger blower seems too easy to screw up when I was doing the math.

So for now, I'll just use it to knock back the, um, knock.

After I finished up the water/methanol system, I started mocking up the adapter plate with cardboard for the M62. Looks like the easiest way to mount this is going to be on the passenger side of the engine, using the bolt holes on the exhaust flanges as a guide. If I would have stuck with the Ranger intake, the drivers side would have been fine.

So. I just wrote out rhat sentence for mounting position and realised how dumb of an idea that is. That part of the heads gets really freaking hot. And the headers will only make it worse. Damnit.

Well. Yesterday afternoon was a wash.

Back to the drawing board/scrap engine. Going to need more beer boxes for templates. I'll get right on that. ????

Oh. And I found this site. If I do blow my 2.9, this is a good alternative to another one. Plus, really good supercharging tips, especially with regards to pulley selection.

Your devotion to this is truly inspiring. I keep watching your progress, hoping you get it. IT, being whatever it is you're doing with the methanol/water thingy-ma-bob and the supercharger "stuff".
