We swapped a 7.5 rear from my 97 ranger to my friends 99 ranger Because mine had a posi. Now his tranny won't shift and no speedo. Mine has the same appearing sensor on the top of the axle housing as his(2 pin). Can his sensor off his 99 axle be swapped for the sensor in my axle and if so what's the easiest way of swapping them without breaking it? Or should we just put his old axle back?

Thanks
Jason

Did you swap the whole axle or just internals?

Dorman site shows same sensor is used for '97 Ranger and '99 Ranger

Should just be 1 bolt holding it in, if you didn't remove it while changing internals you could have damaged it, pull it out and check it.
Inside axle housing VSS sits just above a "tone ring" next to the ring gear, tone ring has "teeth", as each tooth passes VSS it creates a pulse.
Post #4 here has a picture of the ring gear assembly with tone ring(looks like a "gear wheel")

They used the same sensor from '87 until the end of production I believe... my '97 F350 has the same sensor as all the axles that have been under my Ranger... (and that says something, I'm on axle 4...)
