I just bought this truck and think I should get a scanner in case or problems in the backcountry. I don't need a 410k Snap-on, don't want a cheap, Amazon, Chinese special either. Any suggestions from those who know?

I moved this to the 4.0L forum.

Do some googling on ForScan... with a Bluetooth OBDII adapter you can use your smart phone.

I have used the Bluetooth ELM327 for many years as a basic OBD2 reader, no complaints, under $20, $5 torque pro APP

I got a Bluetooth BlueDriver a few years ago so I could also read transmission codes, also no complaints, $100, comes with APP

I like Bluetooth because its wireless and I pretty much always have my phone with me, lol
And with wireless I can go under the hood and unplug stuff to see how readings change in real time
Or have the phone in its holder while driving and watch Live Data

It depends on what you want to do. Forescan with the adaptor will enable you to do anything, including ABS and TPMS codes and things.

If you are looking for a basic scanner, I suggest a Scangauge. Not only can you use it as a scanner but as a real time gauge for up to four functions. On my 2011, I use it for coolant temp, volts, average mpg, and intake air temperature. On the 2019, it’s volts, coolant temp, transmission temp, and boost.
