One day... maybe not today, maybe not this century... we will make it through an entire thread without insulting a 2.9.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Oh yes. We haven't been to the pointless thread lately. It can be fun. Go read it. It'll take your mind off whatever's bothering you.

did you check to see how far the shocks are extended at normal ride height?

This.

3-4" is about the average amount of downtravel on a stock suspension... If you got 3" lift from those springs, then you're probably close to maxed out (shocks for a STX Highrider would work in this case, though they're often hard to find since that model was only made for a few years in the mid-late '80s, you might have to look in a shock catalog to find ones that are the right length)

I'm not familiar with the KYB Mono Max, however I've had their "Gas-A-Just" monotubes on my Ranger for maybe 15 years. They still seem great... All I've had to do once was replace the front upper bushings maybe 5 or 6 years ago. I can't say whether the shocks are built the same today as back then, but I like them. IMO they're a good alternative to Bilstein when budget is a factor (I've run both). The KYB seems like it might be slightly more harsh if you hit a pothole or something, but otherwise the ride is quite similar.

Well. I had a ton of Amazon reward credit saved up on my account, and pulled the trigger on a set of Bilstein 24-185493 B8 5100 for the front. 78/each, out the door price was somewhere around 38 for the set.

Should be here Wednesday. I am a little concerned that I've read the 5100s don't last as long as the 4600s, though. Also concerned that they're listed for 4" of lift, and I have around 2" on the front. Eh. Guess we'll see.

Am I starting to see a pattern...

Didn't you buy a set of Bilsteins for the rear that were to long?

I guess you're getting them cheap enough you can always resell them...

Don't they list the open and closed lengths? Should be easy enough to measure your truck before you buy....tho its too late now. I'm the same way too, I have a set of king shocks that are far too long for my truck. I'm hanging on to them because....

Anyone sure if these will clear the passenger CV (‘03 4wd 4.0)? It’s been a pain to find ones that will... I’m back to the superlift with the posts at the bottom and am not a fan. Pro Comp pro-runners cleared but I didn’t like the ride for the money (they were tuned for a Jeep) and a little short for my lift.
