I agree with AN fittings being amazing... but they are in a category of their own... as with most everything with a mil spec.

Why would there be 0 braking front and rear? That is not how I understand the system to work. Plus I have personal experience with blown brake lines, the pedal sinks but there is still brakes at the bottom of the pedal travel. There are 2 seperate brake systems packaged in the master cylinder, a front and a rear. Or has that changed since cast iron masters?
Now if you were talking about my 54, I would agree that you would lose all braking except for e-brakes.
Well let me correct myself. first i dont know what master cylinder or truck were talking about. but as far as my understanding and experience.... if its a single master with two ports on it and theres an open line the pressure will travel to the easiest port to push (the open one) no pressure will build in the master cylinder. ive been there on that ride....it was not fun or cheap

I think a lot of us on here have had brakes lines blow while driving. Living in Ohio with 10-20 yr old vehicles I deal with bad brakes lines at least once or twice a year. You can still drive with a pin hole in the brake line. Yes the pedal is soft but as long as you have fluid and you are keeping distance from people then you can drive it to at least get home or to a shop. I've used the copper/nickel lines before and they bend super easy which makes doing brake lines super easy. People say compression fittings wont hold either and I've used those all the time. Plan on using one today to fix my brake line actually. There's always a better way to do something. If he wants to do that to his truck then so be it. At least he knows he could lose his breaks at any point while driving. That's better than not knowing about a brake issue and then all of a sudden you are driving and have no brakes. Sounds like he fixed it right so no worries.

I will have to do some research.
Hope no one was hurt in your "ride".

Repairing a brake line with a compression fitting is another accident waiting to happen...

What in the hell is going on here today?

My credo
the grey-t escape
the weirdest brake line failure I had was while sitting still. was at the local county fair, july 4th after the fireworks, had the ‘93. I was sitting in in before my daughter and (now ex) wife got in, engine idling, a/c on. had my foot on the pedal just enough to hold the truck as I was on a slight hill. (no parking brake, I carry a small supply of 2x4 wood blocks) well the brake pedal starts dropping, I didnt know if it was front or back and had all the stop & go traffic out of the fair and halfway home. turned out to be the line going to the rear axle. replaced it with mild steel line from the proportioning valve all the way to the back where the flex hose hooks up. yes, double flare. Never had any other rear brake issues. 3 years later was replacing front pads and when I was pushing the pedal in driveway to seat the caliper pistons and get the firm pedal, the line crossing from left wheel to right wheel went out. So I replaced everything on front, flex hoses and all. Id of hated to of been pulling a trailer and that happen, esp with the front brakes.

I've never had a compression fitting fail yet. These are on my vehicles so the only person held accountable is me. Biznitching about a compression fitting that "could" fail is like being scared to drive because you "might" hit a deer.

My credo
That one guy with ADHD and doesn't stop talking about cars.
I live in Florida, with a 98 and far away from beaches, almost centered in Florida, never had brake line failures, only cancer on the truck is light surface rust, do I need any concern that my original brake lines could give out any time?
